Troop 142 Eagle Project

A Uniformed Force: Like a peaceful army, Boy Scout Troop 142 mobilized at Riverglen to build a spacious pen for some of our tigers. Eagle Candidate Adam Watkins had to plan the project, solicit materials, and exercise leadership of others. Fellow Scout Kevin Byram built a number of excellent den boxes. If you or one of your friends is looking for an opportunity to better the lives of our cats, please let us know.

A Monumental Task: One look at the pen next to the Troop van gives you some idea of the work involved in building enclosures to USDA standards, straight, tall, and tiger strong.

Setting Poles: The truck was needed to dig the deep holes to set the telephone pole sized timbers into place.

Up She Goes! Those timbers, made from whole straight tree trunks, are heavy! Once in position, they had to be packed tightly into the surrounding earth.

A Little Help: Technology is wonderful when it works. The crane truck shows its versatility in setting the pole as if it were a large toothpick. Scout Eagle projects bring out the best in a whole community as expensive services are donated to a worthy cause or provided at reduced cost.

The Wire: The large gauge wire turns these rows of poles into the walls of a pen. As you can see, Troop 142 did a really great job of setting up the 65' x 65' enclosure. Adam's kindness and helpful spirit, and the Scouting Spirit of Troop 142 will not soon be forgotten.
